General information about CPB
CPB is an abbreviation of
Centrum
Pomocy
Bliźniemu - Monar Markot. The most appropriate translation into English is Center for Humanitarian Aid - Monar Markot.
CPB, situated in Warsaw at ul. Marywilska 44a, was established December 1, 1993 as a hostel for homeless people. The first residents were a group of 20 persons who started a professional hostel in order to help people excluded from the society.
Today the main goal of the center is to prepare people who need help to live an independent life. In order to reach this goal, CPB helps people to improve their social situation, health, family relations, value system, life style, ability to cope with stress and work skills. Besides CPB carries out treatment of alcoholism, drug abuse and aggression.
Since December 1, 2004, CPB has carried out programmes in order to help homeless belonging to the following groups:
- homeless up to 25 years old
- old persons being alone, sick, and without care
- homeless with alcohol problems
- homeless with drug problems
- homeless with mental disorders
Persons belonging to these groups can take part in the programmes mentioned below:
- overnight accomodation for young homeless people
- hostel for homeless alcoholics having finished basic abuse therapy
- hostel for people with mental disorders
- department of addiction therapy
- hospital and detoxification department
Thanks to Telekomunikacji Polska S.A. and Speaker of the Sejm Marek Borowski, CPB has a computer room with Internet access. Here the residents have free access to all informations about work, and very often this is their first contact with computers and the Internet.
